Amid all the chatter of Celtic being poor and Rangers on the ascendancy in the Scottish Premiership, Chris Sutton has predicted who would win the Glasgow Derby should it be played today.
The former Celtic hero doesn’t seem to be on board with the narrative surrounding Celtic and whilst Rangers are still on our coattails, there is a very real title challenge on from across the city.
But what seems to be conveniently forgotten is that when it came to the crunch this season, in the Glasgow Derby, Celtic delivered and Rangers crumbled.
The 1-0 win at Ibrox set a marker and Brendan Rodgers then followed that up with a 2-1 Parkhead win in December.
And now, Chris Sutton has predicted who would win should both teams be facing off today and it doesn’t make good reading for the club across the water despite the recent positivity surrounding them.
Sutton said [Daily Record], “The general feeling is that Rangers are the team on the up with momentum and Celtic are going in the other direction, but this is dangerous territory. Clement’s team haven’t cracked it yet. Far from it.
“It only takes one bad result, one bad moment in a game, one dodgy decision or one red card and Celtic have the upper hand. Let’s not forget, Celtic have also played Rangers twice this season and beaten them twice.
“If they were playing each other today, I wouldn’t bet against Rodgers’ team winning again. In the big Old F*rm moments, the champions have delivered.”
Celtic still have the psychological advantage over Rangers
Despite all the recent negativity surrounding Celtic at the moment, Brendan Rodgers still has a huge advantage over Rangers.
Despite the horrific injury problems over the course of the season, Rangers are still the chasing team. Celtic have not been shifted from the summit of the Scottish Premiership and they have had major first-team players unavailable.
Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liel Abada and Reo Hatate are still to return from injury. Daizen Maeda was missing for a full month due to the Asia Cup.
Greg Taylor has been out for a number of weeks although will return to the first team today and now Alistair Johnston is currently out.

That’s SIX players who were central to our domestic treble success all missing at some point or another this season.
And with Kyogo Furuhashi looking like he has found a new spark, the only way is up for Celtic.
The fact that Sutton believes that Celtic would still win the Glasgow Derby today with all these players still out injured speaks volumes about the mentality of this squad and the calibre of Rodgers.
