The drama just never stops at Celtic.

There haven’t been many seasons that have topped this current one when it comes to chaos on and off the field of play.

As Wilfried Nancy loses his first three games, and ahead of a crucial showdown against Dundee United on Wednesday night, the bombshell news dropped out of Celtic about Peter Lawwell leaving.

The Celtic fans have protested for months and months, as they want a clear-out of the board, and Chris Sutton was pretty honest with the latest drama dropping out of Glasgow.

Chris Sutton reacts to Peter Lawwell stepping down at Celtic

Throughout this current campaign, Sutton has been one of the very few pundits in the media who have called out the Celtic board, and what they did, or in this case, didn’t do, during the 2025 summer transfer window.

But upon hearing of Lawwell’s sudden exit, Sutton told Sky Sports News (17/12/25) that he feels ‘really sorry’ for the departing Celtic chairman.

The former striker pointed towards Lawwell’s statement, and how he and his family were getting ‘abuse’ that has now gone too far.

Sutton made it clear that ‘isn’t on’, before adding that during his two-decade period at the club, he has done ‘so much’ for Scotland’s most successful club.

“It has been a difficult season for Celtic on and off the pitch,” said Sutton. “Peter making that decision to step down. You mentioned it, 21 years at the club, and it has been a really successful period for Peter.

“I had a look at his statement, talking about the abuse that he and his family have suffered. It isn’t on.

“In many ways, I feel really sad for him and his family that they had to put up with that level of abuse. It’s a sad day for Peter Lawwell, who did so much for the club.”
