Adam Idah’s move to Celtic has certainly caused a stir this week after a £9.5m deal was agreed with Norwich City for the striker.
When news of the deal broke, it was welcomed by the likes of former Celtic heroes Chris Sutton and John Hartson.
But, rather predictably, whilst former Rangers striker Ally McCoist thinks the move is a good one for Idah, he also thought that Celtic had overpaid for the international striker.
But McCoist isn’t the only one who thinks Celtic have overspent on the deal. The Norwich City fans also think Celtic have spent too much on Idah but Chris Sutton has told them exactly why they are wrong.
Sutton shares ‘a Celtic perspective’ on Idah deal
Having connections with both clubs, Chris Sutton is perfectly placed to offer his view on the Adam Idah transfer deal from both clubs’ perspective and here, the former Celtic hero explains why his old club have got themselves a good deal.
Sutton told Pink Un, “From a Celtic perspective, that figure isn’t that much for a development player in this day and age.
“Clubs always tend to pay more for potential and Idah still has plenty, even though it hasn’t worked out as anyone hoped at Norwich.”
Norwich fans told Celtic fee is not ‘massive’
I can kind of get why the Norwich fans believe that paying £8.5m upfront might seem like a huge sum of money for a fringe player, but Sutton stands firm and tells them that at today’s prices, that is not a lot to shell out at all.
Sutton continued, “From a Norwich perspective, there will be fans who will be wondering how on earth they’ve managed to get that fee for him, but I think with his age and profile, it’s not a massive fee relative to today’s market.
“Celtic would have liked to have paid less. But it has become necessary to sign him.”

Look, the point here is that Idah has already proved he can handle playing for Celtic in high-pressure games.
His two penalties against Hibs on his debut and then against Rangers twice in the league and the Scottish Cup final have shown that wearing the Celtic jersey doesn’t wear heavy on the Irishman.
If we were going to nitpick then an argument could be made on whether or not Idah will be able to do the business in the Champions League but looking at how he performs on the international stage, I believe he will thrive amongst Europe’s elite.
