Daizen Maeda talks up ‘very special’ Celtic fans ahead of Champions League game vs Young Boys

Celtic are preparing for their biggest game of the season as Young Boys come to town on Wednesday night.

The Champions League has provided Celtic fans with some memorable nights, both good and bad, but the club are well on track to qualify from the group stages for the first time since 2013.

Celtic face Young Boys at Celtic Park where Brendan Rodgers knows that another three points will pretty much guarantee the Parkhead club will move into the play-off places.

The Swiss club are suffering from a poor run of form and Young Boys’ latest result gives Celtic encouragement that the positive result they want on Wednesday can be achieved in front of a sold-out Parkhead crowd.

And it is that crowd that Celtic icon, Daizen Maeda, says that he is in awe of as he looks ahead to the big game on Wednesday night.

Daizen Maeda gets ‘goosebumps’ from the Celtic supporters

Maeda told the Daily Record, “You will never be able to play in a better atmosphere than here in the Champions League.

“I still get goosebumps when we are at home in this competition. It is very special.

“It’s an honour to play in such an atmosphere and it’s up to us to make sure the fans are happy.

“These nights do feel different. You can feel the energy coming from the supporters.”

Young Boys position in the Champions League compared to Celtic

Celtic are currently in 21st place in UEFA’s Champions League with nine points, ten goals scored and 10 goals conceded.

A win will take the club onto 12 points and into the seeded places for the next round which is in stark contrast to where Young Boys currently sit.

The Swiss champions are rooted to the bottom of UEFA’s league with no wins from six fixtures having scored just three goals and conceding 22.

All the signs point to a Celtic win on Wednesday night and with an aggressive 60,000 Parkhead support his team, Rodgers will be confident of pulling off another memorable Champions League win.
