Celtic are now in search of Brendan Rodgers’ successor.

This was always going to happen given the noises Rodgers has been making this season, and the Celtic fans’ protests against the board.

Celtic love a comeback. Rodgers returned for a second spell in 2023, replacing Ange Postecoglou. Jota came back last January, Kieran Tierney returned this summer, and now Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney are back.

But what are the chances of Postecoglou joining that party following his sacking from Nottingham Forest this month?

Danny Murphy reacts to the suggestion of Ange Postecoglou’s possible Celtic return

Even though Postecoglou has been sacked twice in the space of a few months – Tottenham and Nottingham Forest – his status is still high in Glasgow.

But when the news of Rodgers’ shock resignation on Monday night broke, Danny Murphy was just finishing his stint on talkSPORT, alongside host Hugh Woozencroft and journalist Darren Lewis.

When Postecoglou’s name was put on the table, as Rodgers’ replacement, Lewis didn’t hesitate and claimed that he would go back.

But former Liverpool midfielder Murphy wasn’t having any of it.

Lewis: “That’s a shout. I think (Postecoglou) would go back (to Celtic). You don’t think so?”

Murphy: “Why wouldn’t he go back now? If they wanted him.”

Lewis: “Maybe, they are trying to agree terms with him.”

Murphy: “But then, you wouldn’t put someone like Martin O’Neill in charge now, would you?”

Lewis: “I wonder if Martin would want to stay?!”

Postecoglou’s record at Celtic

Celtic’s style of play is down the toilet. It’s lacking spark, it’s lifeless, no rhythm, speed, connections or colour to the play.

But if Celtic were to bring back Postecoglou, then everyone knows the entertainment comes back with it, as his record in his first spell proved.
