It would be wise for the powers that be at Celtic to listen to supporters, but it simply isn’t going to happen.
For weeks, it has been suggested that Robbie Keane is in with a chance to become Celtic’s next manager, and those fears could now become a reality.
It has previously been reported that Keane has met with Dermot Desmond over the managerial role, and now Sky Sports are reporting that ‘further discussions are scheduled to take place this week.’
Unless you have serious intentions of appointing someone, you don’t just hold ‘further discussions’; it’s quite clear what is going to happen next, and Celtic fans have every right to be angry.

What Dermot Desmond is planning to do this week with Martin O’Neill
In the background is, of course, Martin O’Neill, who guided Celtic to the domestic double this season following his two spells in charge.
It has also been reported by Sky Sports that Desmond will speak with O’Neill ‘in the next 24 hours’ to determine if he wants to stay at the club in ‘some capacity.’
Once again, it further indicates that Keane will be the next manager.
It wouldn’t make sense for Celtic’s principal shareholder to meet with O’Neill about other roles at the club if he wanted to keep him as the manager for next season.
This is all starting to add up, and not in the way the Celtic Park faithful would have wished.
Keane leaves his post at Ferencvaros about a fortnight ago. Holds talks with Desmond. Further talks to be held. O’Neill is possibly being handed other roles at the club. What a crying shame it has come to this!
Not only has Keane come off the back of a season where he finished second in a one-horse race, but his call to coach in Israel between 2023-24 is one that won’t sit well with a Celtic support that has continually backed the Palestine cause.
