The international break did bring some Celtic action to the fans who were suffering withdrawal symptoms last week.

The Celtic Legends vs Manchester United Legends charity match at Old Trafford saw some of the biggest names from both clubs line up against each other to raise money for good causes across the country.

For Celtic, matchday manager, Paul Lambert, had names like Georgios Samaras, Emilio Izaguirre, Artur Boruc, Efe Ambrose and Gary Hooper to pick from for the day.

Manchester United brought huge names like Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Mikael Silvestre and Paul Scholes for the glamour friendly.

Celtic eventually won the game on penalities after a 1-1 draw and the victory inspired Efe Ambrose to do his trademark backflip in front of the travelling Hoops support.

Ambrose: ‘Just like winning the title’ with Celtic again

Ambrose was much loved by the Celtic support during his time at the club. Known for making the odd ‘mistake’, the Nigerian’s work rate and effort he put in for the jersey made him adored by the Celtic fans as he earned cult hero status at the club.

And after beating Manchester United, Ambrose said that it felt like he was rolling back the glory years at Celtic with the win.

Taking to Instagram, Ambrose said, “Simplify it. In a thrilling Celtic Legends vs. Manchester United Legends match, I found myself back in the Hoops, giving everything I had in defence, just like the old days.

“The game was intense, with both sides pushing hard, and after 90 minutes, it ended in a draw, setting up a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

“When Celtic Legends secured the win, the feeling was electric. Without thinking twice. I ran towards the fans and pulled off my signature backflip, the crowd erupting as I soared through the air.

“My teammates loved it, cheering me on as we celebrated together, the moment feeling just like winning a title all over again.”

Ambrose’s love for Celtic can never be denied. He gave his all for the club during his five years where he won four league titles, a Scottish Cup and a League Cup.

Now at seventh-tier English side, Workington AFC, at a spritely 36-years-old Ambrose’s remarkable career continues.
