Enzo Maresca is still raging about Celtic beating his team on the US Tour despite watching his team deliver his first win as the Chelsea manager.

Celtic thrashed Chelsea 4-1 in Brendan Rodgers’ final game of the pre-season game in the States and the result is still playing on Maresca’s mind.

The Premier League club beat Club America 3-0 overnight after goals from Christopher Nkunku, Marc Guiu and Noni Madueke delivered the win.

However, it was Celtic that dominated Maresca’s post-match comments as the Chelsea boss still smarting over the heavy defeat to the Scottish champions.

Maresca unhappy with Chelsea’s bravery vs Celtic

Celtic were superb in the win over Chelsea and some of the football Brendan Rodgers’ team produced was excellent.

But as Maresca cast his eye over his first win, the Stamford Bridge boss shared why he was still unhappy with the Celtic defeat.

Maresca said [Football London], “We struggled against Wrexham for many reasons, we struggled against Celtic for many reasons but there were many important things we improved.

“Today, we continued that line. Since we started, what we do in training has to happen here in the game.

“What I didn’t like against Celtic was the habit we have defensively. For instance, to hold the line very high when there is no pressure on the ball. This is suicide. You cannot hold the line very high when there is no pressure on the ball.

“We are talking, we are working. It’s a habit from years ago. I don’t know. There are things that we need to improve defensively but the way we pressed against Celtic, going man-to-man against a team that is ready to start the championship, we had to be brave every time.”

The Celtic fans were over the moon about the win and will be delighted that the result is still playing on Maresca’s mind.

With several Celtic players putting in an impressive performance against the Premier League club, Rodgers will also be delighted at how his team stood up and outplayed one of the richest clubs in England.

With the big Scottish Premiership kick-off just days away now, Celtic will now go into Flag Day full of confidence hoping to get the defence of the title off to a winning start against Derek McInness’ Kilmarnock.
