Ex-Celtic man Charlie Mulgrew says Hearts ‘celebrated the league’ at Easter Road

If Hearts go on to win this season’s Premiership title, one man who is certainly going to get an earful is Charlie Mulgrew.

That’s because all season long, the ex-Celtic defender has been winding up the Hearts supporters, first claiming they wouldn’t even last until Christmas in the title race, and now he has tested their blood pressure again.

In the opening set of post-split fixtures, Celtic and Hearts won their respective matches, while Rangers lost at home to Motherwell.

The headline act was Hearts’ win at bitter rivals Hibernian, but Mulgrew has claimed that the Premiership leaders ‘celebrated the league on the Hibs pitch’, as he told The Breakdown.

“Hearts celebrated the league on the Hibs pitch,” said Mulgrew. “I thought they were getting the trophy. I thought I could see the helicopter.”

Ex-Celtic man Charlie Mulgrew winds up Hearts fans with title jibe

It’s great to see Mulgrew ramp up the pressure on Hearts because, by the end of Bank Holiday Monday, this could be a two-way title race.

First and foremost, Celtic need to beat Hibs on Sunday, and it will be interesting to see how their supporters react, given that they can give their bitter rivals a helping hand.

And then, Martin O’Neill’s side can sit back and watch Hearts and Rangers fight it out at Tynecastle in one of the most defining games of the season.

But while more and more people start to believe that Hearts could win this title, just at the right time, and when it matters most, Celtic are talking the talk on the pitch.

That’s why Mulgrew wanted to add that the Jambos should now be a ‘wee bit worried’ about what the champions of Scotland are starting to do.

“Hearts celebrated the league on the Hibs pitch,” said Mulgrew. “I thought they were getting the trophy. I thought I could see the helicopter.

“Hearts fans were greeting and everything with their tops off. They thought they had won it. It’s Hearts’ to lose. They have got one hand on it. I thought they had it against Hibernian at the stadium.

“But if I were Hearts, I would be a wee bit nervous about Celtic now.”
