Celtic fans are trying to find some positives as preparations begin for the 2026/27 season.

There is a sense of worry that Celtic, once again, won’t be pro-active during the 2026 summer transfer window, and it will be a repeat of the last campaign.

Frank McAvennie has been a vocal critic of the Celtic board, previously questioning Dermot Desmond, and now he has turned his attention to Chris McKay.

McKay is Celtic’s Chief Financial Officer, but when the club sit down to conclude deals for players this summer, McAvennie explained why he doesn’t want him in the room, as he told his Let Me Be Frank Podcast.

“Just keep him out of the room,” said McAvennie. “Keep him out of the room because their head tells them not to do it. Just his job tells him not to do it.”

Frank McAvennie continues criticism of Celtic board members

Throughout Celtic’s domestic double campaign, fans protested against the board, whether that’s at Parkhead or on the road.

Time and time again, pictures would pan to the board members in the stands, which would include McKay, as McAvennie clearly feels he has a negative impact on how Celtic go about their business.

Simon Houston: “Left to Brian Wilson to do interviews when there is a chief executive who doesn’t say very much. There is a whole summer ahead when it comes to inactivity at Celtic.”

McAvennie: “Is it McKay?”

Houston: “Aye, McKay. The chief financial officer.”

McAvennie: “I mean, he is an accountant. You have an accountant wanting to do a business deal on a football player. Just keep him out of the room. Keep him out of the room because their head tells them not to do it. Just his job tells him not to do it.”

How long has McKay been in his role at Celtic?

Celtic fans won’t stop protesting until there is a clear-out in the boardroom, and McKay is one of the names on the chopping block.

Peter Lawwell stepped down last season, while Head of Football Operations, Paul Tisdale, didn’t last very long in Glasgow.

But McKay has been at Parkhead for over a decade, officially joining the Celtic board in January 2016 and being appointed ‘Financial Director.’

And since 2021, he has been handed the title of ‘Chief Financial Officer’ at the champions of Scotland.
