It was a great ending to the Glasgow derby on Sunday at Ibrox.

After Celtic rescued a late draw against Rangers, tensions started to boil over to the point that Martin O’Neill had to get involved.

But it wasn’t just on the pitch where it was all going off because things were also heated in the Ibrox tunnel, according to Frank McAvennie, and Julian Araujo was involved, after goading the Rangers players on the pitch.

“I heard a wee rumour, aye,” shared McAvennie. “There might have been one or two bangs (in the tunnel). The wee Mexican, with a Scottish accent and blonde hair. Well done, that’s brilliant. That’s my boy.”

This was Araujo’s second Glasgow derby, and he made sure to enjoy it, after his debut was one to forget because it came under Wilfried Nancy and ended in defeat.

You are Martin O’Neill, what is the first change you would make for the cup game against Rangers?

Frank McAvennie is loving that Julian Araujo got involved in Ibrox ‘tunnel scuffle’

Araujo is becoming a popular player at Celtic, and really taking to life at Parkhead after joining on a loan deal from Bournemouth in January.

If he continues in his current ways, then there is no reason why Celtic shouldn’t look to sign Araujo permanently in the summer.

It’s not just what he is doing off the pitch that is making him likeable, but he is also putting in some very strong performances, although he will want to look away for the Gers’ second goal.

But it wasn’t just Araujo that McAvennie enjoyed watching after the full-time whistle, because he thought O’Neill ‘wanted to swing one’, as he told his Let Me Be Frank Podcast.

Simon Houston: “What about the final whistle and the scenes. Martin O’Neill, 74, sprinting across the pitch to get in and amongst it.”

McAvennie: “I thought he wanted to swing one. I thought he was going to swing, but he never did. He pulled them away.”

Houston: “It was a bit like your grandad getting into a fight at a wedding or something. Scales was like, ‘Come on. Get you out of here.'”

McAvennie: “Scales was the same last week. Something happened last week.”

Houston: “Araujo likes getting involved, doesn’t he?”

McAvennie: “I heard a wee rumour, aye.”

Houston: “Throw the word allegedly in.”

McAvennie: “Allegedly, I guess.”

Houston: “Do you think there might have been a scuffle in the tunnel?”

McAvennie: “There might have been one or two bangs. The wee Mexican, with a Scottish accent and blonde hair. Well done, that’s brilliant. That’s my boy.”

The best thing about all of this is that supporters will get another taste of it all at the weekend.

Araujo is expected to start again, but this time there will be a winner because it’s a Scottish Cup tie. What’s even better is that Celtic fans will take over the Broomloan Stand, so the atmosphere is going to be even better.
