With every new signing, comes excitement, hope and expectation. Especially when a player comes to Celtic. Because as fans, we expect only the best players that the club can afford to walk through the Parkhead doors.
And we haven’t been left disappointed over the last two seasons. Celtic’s recruitment has been superb and it has allowed us to watch players like Reo Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi and Jota tear up the Scottish game.
And it looks like we could be about to welcome another player of similar, if not better ability, of the three players mentioned. That’s if Gangwon President, Kim Byung-ji’s comments about reported incoming Celt, Yang Hyun-jun, are anything to go by.
The Korean club chief is disappointed to lose one of his star players but has wished him well at Celtic with some praise that will make the support excited to see just what type of player we are getting from the K League.

Byung-ji said [Daily Record], “I hope Yang will continue to grow. He could easily become a world-class player like Son Heung-min. He was a mainstay for our team and was an inspiration.
“I look forward to watching him produce brilliant performances for Celtic in the future.
“My hope is that he never forgets Gangwon and we always have a special place in his heart for his future journey and I hope he returns to visit us.
“I know he will go to Celtic and become a better player too. He carries with him to Scotland the love and support of our players and fans We wish him all the very best.”
That is certainly some praise indeed. If Hyun-jun can be anywhere near the player that Heung-min is, the Celtic fans are really in for a treat.
Of course, it’s important not to get too carried away. His stats this season have not shown anything that suggests he could reach that level but that has to be taken all in context.
Gangwon have been struggling this season and it’s difficult for flair players to flourish when the threat of relegation is hanging over them.
At least at Celtic, he will get the freedom and opportunity to showcase his skills and after these comments by Byung-ji, I am looking forward to seeing what the attacking midfielder can produce.
