Incoming Celtic signing Gustaf Lagerbielke played a full match for Elfsborg this evening, potentially his last for the club before making the switch to Glasgow.

Multiple outlets have reported that Lagerbielke is on the brink of signing a deal with the Bhoys for a fee of around £3m. It’s been stated that a medical will take place this week before the transfer is confirmed.

Brendan Rodgers didn’t name Lagerbielke in post-match interviews after beating Aberdeen at Pittodrie but did confirm that a deal for Carl Starfelt’s replacement is imminent.

Lagerbielke was selected for tonight’s Elfsborg match away to Hammarby nonetheless, featuring for the entire 90 minutes and coming through the fixture without any apparent injuries.

Given his move to Celtic is said to be so close, it’s something of a surprise to see him play. The deal could have been put in jeopardy had he picked up a problem.

It wasn’t the farewell he’d have hoped for either, with his side succumbing to a 1-0 defeat. Nonetheless, the central defender is set to leave his side top of the table and heading for a league title.

All eyes will now be on a Lagerbielke departure to Scotland early this week. If he arrives in quick enough time, he could even train and feature in next week’s match against Kilmarnock in the Scottish League Cup.

Celtic are sweating on a potential hamstring injury suffered by Cameron Carter-Vickers, so the sooner we get defensive reinforcements in the door, the better.
