Celtic were knocked out of the Champions League against Bayern Munich after a brave display in the Allianz Arena.

Celtic put up a superb display against Bayern Munich in Germany as the Bhoys almost pulled off the impossible as it looked like the tie was heading to extra-time.

Nicolas Kuhn put Celtic 1-0 up in the 60th minute to level the fixture at 2-2 as the Hoops looked like they could pull off a Champions League miracle.

However, it wasn’t to be for Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers as Bayern equalised with virtually the last kick of the ball to end the two-legged contest with heartbreak for the Scottish champions.

But the battle over 180 minutes wasn’t lost on Harry Kane as he admits that Celtic ‘hurt’ Bayern Munich over two Champions League legs.

Harry Kane says Celtic ‘hurt’ Bayern Munich in the Champions League

Speaking post-match, Kane opened up on just how well Celtic played against the Bundesliga champions-elect.

Kane told Sport 1, “I thought with the ball we were a little careless, we made too many mistakes and we were punished for that.

“Without the ball, the intensity and pressing was perhaps also not too high. It was not that that the boys didn’t try but sometimes it’s a mixture of situations.

“We have to do this quickly find out on Sunday. It was an important game against a good team that hurt us in the first leg on the counter-attack quite a lot but with the right mindset and more intensity hopefully, we play with that intensity again for the rest of the season.”

Celtic will earn Champions League respect after Bayern Munich performances

Celtic have put themselves back on the map in Europe after their Champions League performances this season.

But it was against Bayern that the Hoops really proved that they can mix it with Europe’s big boys. Had the Bhoys taken their chances in the first half then who knows how the tie could have panned out.

But over two legs, Celtic restored their European reputation after they almost pegged back a two-goal deficit at Celtic Park and almost pulled off an incredible win in the Allianz Arena.

With the league title almost in the bag, Brendan Rodgers will get the chance to test himself against Europe’s elite next season if he can guide Celtic through the Champions League playoff round.
