It has been a pretty busy six months for Kyogo Furuhashi.
From playing for Celtic in the Champions League in January to his nightmare spell at Rennes, and then signing for Birmingham City in England’s second tier during the 2025 summer transfer window.
It’s not what Kyogo would have wanted, but one thing is for sure: his popularity hasn’t dropped in Glasgow, and he is still highly regarded by Celtic supporters.
Even though Kyogo is no longer donning the famous green and white colours, he still hasn’t forgotten where he made a name for himself in Europe, as his latest social media post shows.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s Celtic print in latest social media post
Now that Kyogo has signed for Birmingham, he wanted to take to Instagram on Tuesday to address the Rennes supporters about his time at the club and moving to the English Championship.
In typical Kyogo style, he was humble with his message, as he also wished Rennes well for the new season, despite his struggles and lack of opportunity during his short stint in France.
But right at the end of his message, he posted the four-leaf clover emoji, the symbol synonymous with Celtic Football Club, and fans loved it.
‘It was a short period of time, but I’m happy to be able to play at Stade Rennais Football Club,’ wrote Kyogo.
‘I hope the new season will be great. I have decided to join the Birmingham City Football Club for the first time. It will be a new environment, but I will do my best to contribute to the team’s victory as soon as possible🍄.
‘Thank you for your continued support 🍀’
Celtic’s search for a striker post Kyogo
Kyogo’s abrupt exit in January was a surprise, and it did leave the club in a spot of bother, although Daizen Maeda stepped up and produced the goods by going on to win PFA Player of the Year.
Even though Brendan Rodgers was looking for a replacement at the time, a striker didn’t come in, mainly because Celtic didn’t have enough time to do so.
But this summer window is where the Kyogo replacement will come in. Callum Osmand has already signed from Fulham, but he surely isn’t Kyogo’s replacement because it’s too much pressure on young shoulders.
Whoever comes in, they have a mountain to climb because Kyogo has left behind quite a legacy:
- Games: 165
- Goals: 85
- Trophies: 9
