Hugh Keevins makes ‘World War III’ claim after suggestion of Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou at Rangers

There aren’t many footballing cities like Glasgow across the world, with Celtic and Rangers at the heart of it.

The history of Scottish football has been dominated by Celtic and Rangers going at each other’s throats, with the Hoops winning 13 out of the last 14 titles to the detriment of their rivals.

Ange Postecoglou has played a huge part in that, and despite his current struggles at Nottingham Forest, he still won the Treble at Celtic before leaving for Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.

But with Rangers looking for yet another coach, the expected names have been mentioned to replace Russell Martin, including Steven Gerrard, and currently, Kevin Muscat.

However, nobody would have thought that Postecoglou’s name would pop up on the Rangers manager search.

Suggestion of Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou becoming Rangers manager

It’s bad enough for a player to represent Celtic and Rangers in their careers, and unfortunately, there have been some who have gone down that unforgivable road.

Mo Johnston is the most high-profile one, and that dark cloud still hovers above Celtic Park.

But on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, it was suggested by a caller that Rangers should target Postecoglou as their next boss.

Hugh Keevins, a man who has covered Scottish football for many decades, could only sit and laugh at that suggestion.

The Clyde 1 pundit then made it clear that ‘World War III’ nearly broke out when Postecoglou was once pictured with former Rangers boss, Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

So, the Celtic hero taking the Ibrox gig is simply an ‘impossible’ course of action.

“Ange Postecoglou once had his photograph taken beside Giovanni van Bronckhorst in a west end restaurant where they were enjoying a cup of coffee,” said Keevins.

“You would have thought they kicked off World War III for daring to be sitting alongside each other, so Ange Postecoglou knows Glasgow, and there are no conceivable circumstances in this world that Ange Postecoglou has anything to do with Rangers.

“Have you (Rangers fan) lived here (in Glasgow) for long? Have you noticed there is a rivalry out there?! These things are just impossible. No matter which way you are going. Rangers to Celtic or Celtic to Rangers. These things are impossible.”
