The international window has given us some much-needed football at a time that would otherwise have been a boring period for the Celtic fans.
Yes, I know we have had the managerial search and the Brendan Rodgers appointment to keep us going but in terms of actually watching football, it has filled a hole in what would have been a football-free zone.
We got to see Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi score for Japan. We also saw Reo Hatate make his second and third appearances for the Samurai Blues.
We also, briefly, got to see the likes of Carl Starfelt and Liel Abada represent their countries as well as Sead Haksabanovic being welcomed back into the Montenegro fold.
And then we have Hyeongyu Oh. The Celtic striker was called up to South Korea in this window and, despite not getting on the scoresheet, did give a good account of himself.
And he has taken to Instagram to thank the Korean fans with an incredibly honest assessment of his performances.
Oh said, “I feel honoured every time I run under the Taeguk-mark (the Korean national flag symbol). I’m disappointed that I wasn’t able to showcase all that I have to offer, but I won’t make excuses, and I promise to come back stronger. Thank you so much for all of your support.” [translated by Deep L]
It is this kind of self-reflection that endears Oh to not only the Korean supporters but also the Celtic fans. 67 Hail Hail told last week how his national manager, Jurgen Klinsmann gave him words of encouragement after he failed to score in the 1-0 loss to Peru.

The Celtic striker’s self-assessment of his own performance seemed, to me, to be overly harsh and Klinsmann gave the 22-year-old some reassuring words. He also repeated that message in the post-match El Salvador press conference.
But as a Celtic fan, this post pleases me. This post tells me that Oh is going to come back next season determined to prove his worth to his nation and the only way he can do that is by performing, and scoring, for Celtic.
I’m looking forward to seeing what he will bring to the table under Brendan Rodgers as a new era kicks off under the Celtic manager.
