Stephen McGinn has reacted to the news announced by Celtic on Thursday that Joe Hart is hanging up his gloves in the summer.
And the current Falkirk veteran wasted no time in informing the Hoops how many goalkeepers they need to recruit in the summer now the club know Hart is departing.
The former Manchester City star will leave Parkhead after three years, two of which he played an integral part in Celtic’s back-to-back Scottish Premiership title wins under Ange Postecoglou.
Joe Hart also picked up a domestic Treble last season and knowing the type of character he is, he’ll be desperate to end his Celtic stint on a high by getting his hands on the Double – even if it seems like a long shot at the moment.
Hart’s former teammates including Raheem Sterling and Kasper Schmeichel, as well as Celtic legends Chris Sutton and John Hartson, responded to the stopper’s announcement yesterday and McGinn has added his say.
McGinn hailed Hart’s ‘infectious’ character that has been not only beneficial for Celtic but beneficial for the player himself who wasn’t quite himself for a period of time after leaving City in 2018.
Meanwhile, McGinn told The Go Radio Football Show that Celtic now need to be on the hunt for two new goalkeepers in the summer. And the 35-year-old is bang on with his assessment.
Scott Bain is out of contract in the summer having made just two appearances for Celtic this season, as per Transfermarkt. While Benjamin Siegrist is even further back in the pecking order and despite being tied to Celts until 2026, the frustrated Swiss stopper is highly likely to move on.
Stephen McGinn on Celtic goalkeeping situation

Stephen McGinn said: “An amazing career for Joe Hart. Almost two different careers in terms of the great England and Man City goalkeeper.
“He kind of lost his way for a few years but I think Celtic has been perfect for Joe Hart and Joe Hart for Celtic. They had an issue in the goalkeeping department but he has came in and been infectious on and off the park for the football club.
“You can see how big an influence he is on the team and will be huge gloves to fill and the whole department in general. I think they need two goalkeepers in the summer so as we say probably every transfer window but another big one coming up for Celtic.”
