‘I wouldn’t be surprised’ – BBC pundit Michael Stewart’s ‘gut’ feeling about Jota’s Celtic injury

Jota looks like he could be out injured for a while at Celtic.

Whilst nothing official has come from the club, there is a fear that Jota could be missing for Celtic for a number of months now.

The Portuguese winger appeared to twist his knee during Celtic’s win against Dundee United and appeared at full time in crutches and a leg brace.

Whilst the severity of Jota’s injury is open to speculation right now, BBC pundit Michael Stewart has shared his ‘gut’ feeling after watching the Celtic winger’s awkward fall.

Michael Stewart believes ‘horrible’ injury could side-line Celtic hero Jota for ‘months’

Indeed, the reports circulating yesterday suggested the same but a former professional footballer, Stewart’s judgement is best placed and what he said doesn’t look good for Jota or the Celtic supporters.

Stewart told BBC Radio Sportsound, “It’s one of those horrible incidents that looks fairly innocuous, but when you see the players reaction, and you always just wonder, something’s not right there.

“Just running across the park, stretching, he was under a little bit of pressure from Ryan Strain, I think it was, but there wasn’t any real physical challenge from the two and it’s just his knee looks to buckle a little bit.

“It rocks as he’s striding across the park. He’s gone off. I mean, he’s up walking, but he’s hobbling badly. I’m hoping I’m wrong, but my gut would tell me that he’s done something that is far from ideal.

“And I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s out for a few months. It could well be sort of looking to try and get himself fit for the start of next season.

“And unfortunately, to you know, my gut would be that the cup final, is, is not going to happen.”

Key Celtic dates Jota is likely to miss should Stewart’s injury prediction come true

Indeed, this weekend’s Glasgow Derby against Rangers looks almost definitely out of the question. The way Jota was hobbling at Tannadice it would take a miracle to make that game.

The Celtic winger could also miss Trophy Day against St Mirren on the 17th of May and then, of course, the Scottish Cup final a week later.

Celtic fans will be hoping the news won’t be as bad as Stewart is predicting but looking at the images from the weekend, many supporters may have to brace themselves for some bad news this week.
