Celtic fans are anxious to see Brendan Rodgers add more quality to the squad ahead of the Scottish Premiership season kick-off next weekend.
Rodgers will have been mulling over Celtic’s defeat to Ajax in the Como Cup where the Dutch side blew the Scottish champions away in the final 45 minutes.
Whilst the result was disappointing for Celtic fans, perspective should be added to it also as it was just another pre-season friendly.
However, what the Ajax defeat did was expose the lack of quality in the Celtic first-team squad this summer and what the Hoops boss said after the defeat about Hyunjun Yang has left Chris Sutton absolutely baffled.

Chris Sutton believes Rodgers’ Hyunjun Yang comments are a ‘warning’ to Celtic fans
Sutton was commenting on Celtic’s Como Cup defeat when he said that what Brendan Rodgers said about Hyunjun Yang in Italy should serve as a ‘warning’ to fans.
Sutton wrote in the Daily Record, “Brendan Rodgers was asked the other night about Yang’s future with Norwich City looking to land the winger on loan.
“He said he can’t even think about letting him go right now because Yang is a current starter.
“Think about that. No disrespect to the player. He’s shown some positive signs that he can be a decent enough squad player at Celtic.
“But let’s be honest, if you’d said a few months ago he’d be going out on loan there wouldn’t have been too many folk complaining.
“Yet now he’s a starter. If that isn’t a warning then I don’t know what is. So they can’t afford to let Yang go but they could allow Nicolas Kuhn to leave without a replacement lined up?
“What is going on here with Celtic?”
What Brendan Rodgers said about Hyunjun Yang that has Celtic hero Sutton worried
Now where Sutton is bang on the money is where he says that if Yang went out on loan then most Celtic fans wouldn’t have batted an eyelid.
But what exactly did Rodgers say about the Korean’s future at the club amid Yang’s links to Norwich City?
Rodgers told The Glasgow Times, “You see he’s starting the games.
“And I see him as an important player for us in our squad.
“At this moment in time, he’s a starting winger for us. So we’re not in a position to be moving him on.”
If Rodgers said that at any point last season, most Celtic fans would have been left bewildered. But with the loss of Jota to injury, selling Nicolas Kuhn and allowing Luis Palma to leave on loan, it’s no wonder Sutton is worried about what’s going on at the Parkhead club.
