James McFadden states whether Brendan Rodgers will stay at Celtic beyond his current contract

Celtic’s latest transfer business isn’t exactly ideal timing.

The simple reason for that is, Brendan Rodgers’ current contract expires at the end of June 2026, and it’s not exactly a way to lure him to the table to sign a new contract.

One thing is for sure: Rodgers won’t do what he did last time, and that’s leave Celtic midway through the campaign and join Leicester City.

It’s fair to say that the Celtic Park faithful have put that away, and now the Irishman is seen in a better light, and large sections of the fanbase want him to extend his stay, so will he do it?

Will Brendan Rodgers sign a new Celtic contract?

James McFadden has followed Celtic up and down the country, working as a pundit for Sky Sports, and seen the champions of Scotland up close and personal.

Given the situation with the recruitment this summer, and the lack of ambition, McFadden told Open Goal that he ‘can’t see’ Rodgers staying beyond his current deal.

The former midfielder noted Rodgers’ first spell in charge, and that infamous call to leave, and how he now ‘appreciates where he is and what he can do.’

“I am not sure,” said McFadden. “I think that might play a part (re transfers), why it’s not been perfect, in terms of recruitment from the summer.

“I think, depending on whether he feels happy with the recruitment at the start of the season. I am not sure.

“I think, because he left and the way he left the first time, maybe he has come back and thought, he doesn’t want to do that again, or maybe he appreciates where he is and what he can do. If he doesn’t feel backed, then I can’t see him staying any longer.”

Rodgers’ record in his second spell at Celtic

In every season Rodgers has been in charge of Celtic, and it’s four in total, he has lifted the Premiership title on every occasion.

From winning Trebles, downing Rangers time and time again, to only losing once in the Scottish Cup over both periods.

These two spells from Rodgers will go down in the legendary books, and the legacy behind them will only grow years and years down the line.

But how has Rodgers fared in his second spell?
