Micah Richards baffled by Ange Postecoglou’s actions at Tottenham, that wasn’t happening at Celtic

The ride isn’t getting any easier for Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur.

In between Tottenham’s crunch Europa League knockout matches against Eintracht Frankfurt, the London club were beaten 4-2 at Wolves on Sunday, in a game littered with error after error from the away side.

Postecoglou was winning it all at Celtic, and he had the world at his feet, especially those in green and white colours.

Remember, Postecoglou had joined a Celtic side that, at the time, was in a mess, needed refreshment, and picking up.

The argument could now be made that Spurs need picking up themselves, because their fans are becoming disgruntled and frustrated by the day.

But Micah Richards is finding a few of Postecoglou’s actions a little bit odd, as the Treble-winner at Celtic tries to stay true to himself.

Ange Postecoglou vs the media

One thing the Celtic Park faithful loved Postecoglou for was the fact that he didn’t shy away from anything, especially those in the media, and telling them how it is.

But Richards feels the 59-year-old has now allowed the media to ‘get the better of him’, as the negative results continue to mount up.

Richards made it clear that he feels Postecoglou is a ‘very good manager’, but every single time, he seems to be ‘biting back’ at those looking through a lens, as he told The Rest is Football Podcast.

“These performances are just not good enough,” said Richards. “I bought into what Ange was doing. I think he is a very good manager. I believe he has let the media get the better of him.

“He is so experienced, yes, maybe not in the Premier League. But some of the things he is saying now, he is almost doubting himself. When he doesn’t need to doubt himself because he is a good manager and he just needs to get it right. When you have bad result after bad result after bad result, you have just got to take your medicine.

“I feel like there is a story every single week with Ange biting back at the media, that’s making a bigger thing than it needs to be. Sometimes, you have just got to take it, haven’t you?! At the moment, it’s seeping onto the pitch. It’s not just Ange, the players need to do better.

“Them players are way better than they are showing. They need to do a lot better, because it’s looking bleak for the future of Ange, for the club. It’s sad to see, because I geninuley believe he is a very good manager, he is just going through a very bad time.”

Every Celtic fan was hoping it would be much better for Postecoglou, but it is looking rather bleak, especially with the team sitting 15th in the Premier League table.

This isn’t the norm for the outspoken coach, as his record, especially the goals conceded (140), perhaps speaks volumes as to where his struggles have come from.

Perhaps the Europa League could be a lifeline for Postecoglou, as winning a trophy in his second season, at every club he has been at, is still very much on, and then the critics will shut up.
