The gap between Celtic and Rangers is huge.

Both on and off the pitch, the Celtic Park club are streets ahead as Brendan Rodgers continues the Bhoys’ domination of Scottish football.

Celtic’s latest financial figures showed that the club is still cash-rich with over £60 million in the bank, and the Hoops’ trophy count has now racked up to the point where Celtic are now officially Scotland’s most successful club.

So when John Hartson was told how a Celtic fan felt that the Parkhead club needs a strong Rangers, the Hoops hero didn’t hold back with his views on the Ibrox club lagging so far behind the Bhoys.

Celtic hero John Hartson admits he doesn’t ‘feel sorry’ for Rangers

Hartson told The Go Radio Football Show [1h 5m], “Yeah, I don’t particularly feel sorry for Rangers, but I agree with Mark [the Celtic fan], I think a strong competition would be healthy and it would be good.

“But listen, the Rangers wouldn’t be feeling sorry for Celtic if they were in the position they’re in, and I say that with the utmost respect.

“You know, it’s good for the Scottish game, for others outside of Celtic and Rangers, but both teams will revel in putting the other football team down because that’s the game that we’re in up here in Scotland.”

Celtic are focused on just one thing this season

Celtic will not be batting an eyelid over what’s happening at Rangers right now because Brendan Rodgers has his own business to take care of.

With a potential treble on the line, the Parkhead boss will be fully focused on looking to beat Hibs at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.

After that, it’s the big Glasgow Derby, where if Celtic beats Rangers, then Rodgers will have the chance to win the title at St Johnstone if he beats Hearts and the McDiarmid Park club over the coming weeks.
