John Kennedy has revealed that although he remains happy at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers, he still has a long-term career ambition to become his own man.

Kennedy was tipped to leave Celtic this summer and head down to Spurs, but after holding talks with new Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, the long-serving Celtic coach decided to stay at Parkhead.

But Kennedy has not given up on becoming a manager in his own right and whilst his ambition is to take that next step, he believes his immediate future lies at Celtic.

Kennedy said [Sky Sports], “I think long term it is probably something I’ll do. I think it’s another challenge for me. But the really positive thing I’ve had at the club is I’ve worked through different areas.

“I started as a youth coach and even in recruitment before that. And I’ve managed to kind of progress my career in a good, kind of, steady state.

“And then along the way, I’ve always been challenged, always learned a lot. And that’s been the case even till now I feel I’d be more than ready to go on and take a job and if I had to do that, I’d be comfortable with that.

“But with every corner I’ve turned here the opportunity presents itself to be part of something new. It was the same when Ange came in. It was going to be something different. He was really exciting to work with, I really enjoyed my time with him.

“With Brendan coming in, I’ve got a real strong relationship with him and the club are moving in the right direction. So I still want to be part of this.

“That’s the immediate future for me is to be part of something special here. To really build on what we’ve done in the last period under a new manager again, and then who knows beyond that.”

Indeed, the links to Spurs is not the first time Kennedy has been liked away from the club. Back in May, he was rumoured to be of interest to Hearts but decided to stay at the club.

At one point, Hibs were also rumoured to have wanted Kennedy to take over at the Leith club just over a year ago as well and yet, Kennedy remained at Celtic.

Kennedy will, at some point, move on from Celtic but right now it is great to hear that he is fully focused on Celtic and committed to helping Brendan Rodgers maintain the club as the dominant force in Scotland.
