After all the speculative headlines over the past 48 hours, it seems, now, that Brendan Rodgers will become the next manager of Celtic. The Irishman is said to be putting the finishing touches to the deal this week.

That’s according to Stephen McGowan at The Daily Mail. McGowan says that Rodgers has agreed a deal to bring him to the club for a second spell, barring any ‘last-minute hitches’ and that he is currently finalising his backroom team.

We spoke yesterday about how the Celtic board will make significant transfer funds available to Rodgers to not only continue our domestic dominance but also to build our reputation across Europe.

Jack Lyons and Glen Driscoll were two names that were floated yesterday as potential candidates and it has been confirmed in this report that they will join Rodgers at Parkhead.

However, long-time trusted assistant manager Chris Davies seems unlikely to join Rodgers in Glasgow. Davies has been linked to joining Ange Postecoglou at Spurs but it is also known that he harbours a passion to become his own man with Swansea City said to be interested in his services. McGowan also says that Brendan Rodgers spoke to John Kennedy on Tuesday where he ‘made it clear’ that the assistant manager is ‘an important part of his plans’.

In what capacity Kennedy would work under Rodgers was unclear but you would have to imagine that if he agrees to stay at the club, he would continue in his current position.

Like a game of chess, Rodgers is already two steps ahead in making his plans at Celtic come to fruition. All we need now is official confirmation that the Irishman is the new manager and we can look forward to a busy summer transfer window.
