The 2024/25 season has been an interesting one for Celtic’s young striker Johnny Kenny.
He spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Shamrock Rovers because minutes under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic were going to be few and far between.
His spell in Ireland was a huge success, which included starting all six Europa Conference League matches and scoring five goals in the competition.
Kenny returned to Celtic in January this year, but he has found game time limited, naturally due to the form of Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah being second choice.
All of his appearances were from the substitutes bench until Wednesday night’s 5-1 win over Aberdeen, in which he scored his first goal for Celtic.

How Brendan Rodgers reacted to Kenny’s goal
Rodgers has already been effusive about Kenny, particularly after he made his senior Celtic debut in January against Ross County when the striker delivered an assist for McCowan’s goal.
Now, the Celtic boss has praised Kenny after his Aberdeen goal and noted how clever his movement was to get in position for the headed effort.
Rodgers told Celtic TV: “Johnny, we’re also pleased for because he works so hard, he is a natural goalscorer.
“I think when you see his movement for the goal, it’s so, so good and everyone was delighted for him.”
