With the Glasgow Derby less than four days away, it’s been a rather strange build-up to Rangers visiting Celtic Park with all the attention and headlines being taken up by transfer news.
Celtic confirmed the signing of Alex Valle this morning and as the supporters greeted the news with a degree of happiness, the message they sent to the club was loud and clear.
They want more. More new faces are needed to strengthen this Celtic team for the season ahead and it seems that that may happen over the coming days.
With Arne Engels, Mateusz Bogusz and Auston Trusty seemingly high on Brendan Rodgers’ radar, it looks like Celtic could announce another new signing before the transfer window closes on Friday.
However, it was the Glasgow Derby that was on Kris Boyd‘s mind as the Sky Sports pundit reviewed the big weekend fixture at Celtic Park.
Kris Boyd sounds worried about Celtic game
The former Rangers striker was previewing Rangers’ visit to Celtic Park and admitted that Brendan Rodgers‘ team are ‘heavy favourites’ to win the clash.
Boyd told Sky Sports, “Yeah, [Celtic look] very good. I think the performances since the start of this season, even going back to preseason, they have started off the season really well, scoring goals and moving the ball well.
“You look at it, they’ve got options with Idah and Kyogo at the top end of the pitch now as well. Idah, I think it was 60 minutes he got at the weekend and Kyogo came on for him after his injury.
“So they’re in a good place. Hatate has been excellent since the start of the season. Callum McGregor and Daizen Maeda as well have been causing real problems.
“Obviously, the loss of O’Riley, for me, I don’t think they’ll be able to replace someone like Matt O’Riley quickly.
“Bernardo is already in there, but he’s a totally different player to Matt O’Riley hence the reason why you get that type of move to the English Premiership.
“So, I mean, I think looking at it right now, Celtic are heavy favourites and rightly so by the way they’ve started, but you just never know when an Old F-rm game comes around.”
Boyd is, quite rightly, worried. The way Celtic have been starting games this season has been a joy to watch.
Celtic’s attacking threat that should worry Rangers
Fast, attacking football has seen the Bhoys take commanding first-half leads in all four domestic fixtures this season.
And as for Callum McGregor and Daizen Maeda, both have been in excellent form by adding goals and providing a real attacking threat up front.
As always though, the Celtic fans will take nothing for granted on Sunday but will expect Brendan Rodgers to ensure that the team continue their excellent form and take another three precious league points away from Philippe Clement.
