The saga is finally over as Louis Munteanu’s next destination has been confirmed.
Munteanu was linked with Celtic last summer after refusing to play for CFR Cluj.
He eventually returned to the starting XI but financial problems meant that the 23-year-old became a sellable asset for the club.
Celtic weren’t credited with having interest in the Romania international this winter, who has recently completed a record transfer to D.C United.
A striker is exactly what the Bhoys need, and this is why he opted to make the move to the MLS instead.

2026 World Cup played a role in Louis Munteanu move
Moving to the USA may seem like an attractive opportunity for some players in the winter and summer.
The US are one of the three co-host nations for the 2026 World Cup, and Munteanu admitted that it played a factor in his decision to leave Europe.
He told the MLS website: “I am incredibly excited to be joining D.C. United. Washington is an amazing city, and this move means a lot to me. MLS is a new and ambitious challenge, and I am fully committed to giving everything I have to help this club succeed next season.
“With the World Cup coming to North America, there will be even greater attention on American soccer, and I want to be part of that moment. The talks with head coach Rene Weiler and sporting director Dr. Erkut Sogut made it clear to me that something special is being built here. I am proud to be part of this project.”
