Louis Munteanu set for ‘club-record’ move as links to Celtic cool

Celtic’s need for a proper striker has never been greater as Wilfried Nancy comes under increasing pressure at the club.

Nancy watched his Celtic side’s meek defeat to Motherwell as the Hoops boss failed yet again to keep a clean sheet as his strikers continue to misfire.

Remarkably, a Celtic striker has scored just once in Nancy’s seven games in charge and that was Daizen Maeda in the Hoops’ defeat to Dundee United on the 17th of December.

Louis Munteanu… no-brainer or red flag?

And with the January transfer window on the verge of opening, the Celtic manager, if he’s still in the position, will be desperate to add a frontman to his goal-shy forward line.

But it appears that one former Celtic target Louis Munteanu is set for his big move in January and his destination won’t be Parkhead.

Former Celtic target Louis Munteanu set for €10m move to DC United

We wrote last week how Celtic dodged a bullet with Munteanu after his off-field antics proved he would have been a disruptive influence at the club.

And it seems that bullet would have been an expensive one as journalist Tom Bogert shares the Romanian striker’s next move on social media.

Bogert said on X, “Sources: D.C. United is nearing a club-record deal to acquire Romania international forward Louis Munteanu from CFR Cluj.

“Deal would be around $7m + add-ons to take total fee to $10m.

“Not done but close.”

Munteanu has been angling for a move for months and as Celtic links cooled, it looks like the MLS will become his next destination.

Who Celtic could turn to amid striker crisis

Celtic have a number of strikers on their books but, apart from Daizen Maeda and possibly Kelechi Iheanacho, none of them are good enough to be the main man up front.

However, it appears that Nancy is ‘keen’ to bring Diogo Rossi to Celtic in order to bolster his attacking options.

Rossi has scored 127 career goals in 363 appearances and has also created 71 assists. With seven caps for Uruguay, the 27-year-old clearly has something about him and could be a good signing for the Parkhead club.
