No football rivalry in the world matches Celtic and Rangers.

For some, they don’t understand the context of it all until they have lived and breathed it.

Even though Maurice Edu donned Rangers’ colours, he shared an interesting viewpoint of the Glasgow derby.

Speaking on The Late Run’s YouTube channel, Edu explained how Celtic and Rangers’ rivalry goes beyond what is on the pitch.

Sum up Rangers looking to drop ‘Simply the Best’ for next season in one word…

What do we think Celtic fans? 😂😂😂

Maurice Edu on Celtic and Rangers’ rivalry ‘going into religion’

“You realise as soon as you touch down there,” said Edu. “You are in the car, you get to the airport, they pick you up, and there are fans in the airport.

“But the driver, the whole time, is talking to you. He knows who you are. He knows what side of the derby you are on. He has his attachment. He is either a Rangers fan or he is a Celtic fan. He is Catholic or Protestant.

“That’s where it gets crazy because it’s deeper than just sport. Than just football. It goes into religion. That’s where the tension really happens.

“But the moment of realisation is as soon as you touch down. You see it and get locked in straight away.”

What other footballing rivalries can compete with Celtic and Rangers?

Celtic and Rangers will disagree on everything and anything, on and off the pitch.

But the one thing everyone will agree on is the fact that no football rivalry in the world touches what those in Glasgow can conjure up every season.

There is nothing in English football that comes close to the chaos in Glasgow, and never will.

Perhaps those in Istanbul might have something to say because the Intercontinental Derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe is certainly fiercely contested and full of hatred.

Then you have the Superclásico across the continent in South America between Argentine giants River Plate and Boca Juniors.

Former Celtic loan star Marcelo Sarachhi has, for his sins, tasted both sides of that divide, as well as the Glasgow derby in its full glory.

Of course, he won’t do the unthinkable and represent both sides of Glasgow in his career, but hopefully, Saracchi returns to Celtic next season, because he was outstanding during his loan spell.
