The signing of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey confused Celtic supporters this summer.

The young Man City defender was brought in at a time Celtic clearly needed reinforcements in the attacking areas of the team.

Simpson-Pusey was signed as Stephen Welsh’s Celtic exit was engineered but, as yet, the Hoops support have yet to see the 19-year-old defender in the green and white Hoops.

And as the Man City defender was omitted from Celtic’s Europa League squad, journalist Michael Gannon spoke about rumours he’s heard about Simpson-Pusey at Parkhead.

‘Something doesn’t add up’ with Jahmai Simpson-Pusey’s move to Celtic

Speaking about the current fan unrest over Celtic’s transfers, Gannon mentioned that there were ‘rumours’ about young Simpson-Pusey he couldn’t get into as colleague Craig Swan said more light will be shed on the transfer soon.

Gannon told Hotline Live [37m 25s], “You’ve got Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. Where is he? I mean, yet to play a minute of football.

“Shin Yamada, no sign of him on the bench. Johnny Kenny, no sign of him either. Just some weird thing’s going on.”

Swan: “Simpson-Pusey, that’s one I suspect we’re going to hear something more about in the next wee while. Something doesn’t add up there.

Gannon: “Obviously, there’s been kind of rumours about him and things in the background which we can’t really substantiate. So we can’t kind of go there obviously.

“But he’s changed his social media and all that stuff. Who knows? But that to me just looks like a waste of time.”

What Brendan Rodgers said about Celtic signing Simpson-Pusey

Brendan Rodgers appeared happy to have brought the young Man City defender to Celtic this summer.

This is what the Celtic manager said at the time, “He’s a very gifted young player.

“He has come through the system at Manchester City, his profile fits very much what we want from our centre halves.

“He’s quick, he’s dominant, he’s a good defender, and of course, at Celtic your centre-backs need to be able to progress the ball and that’s a big strength of his.

“We’ve taken him on loan for a year. We always need all our centre-backs at Celtic. You play so many games, so many intense games and he will join our squad.

“He is obviously a little bit behind because he hasn’t played so many games over the course of pre-season but we have brought him through for the rest of the season and hopefully we can close that one out today.”

With such a glowing report, it is strange that Rodgers is yet to introduce Simpson-Pusey to the Celtic support.
