Stephen Welsh endured a difficult summer transfer window.
The Celtic defender knew from the beginning of the summer that he wasn’t going to play a major part in Brendan Rodgers’ plans this season.
After a good loan spell with KV Mechelen last campaign, Welsh was looking for another successful stint away from the Hoops.
He looked set to move to Plymouth Argyle, but the English side pulled out of a loan with option to buy deal because Celtic took too long to sanction a move.
Welsh, instead, signed for Motherwell on deadline day, and he could make his debut for the club against Dundee on Saturday.

Askou hails Celtic defender Welsh’s qualities
Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou spoke to the media on Thursday and while he did not confirm or deny a debut for Welsh at Dens Park, he gave the Celtic centre-back a glowing review.
Askou said: “Stephen brings quality and his experience from a high level with a big club. He’s at a good age, where he’s still young and eager, and eager to learn and develop.
“But he has also picked up a lot of experience already from high-tempo, high level games.
“We see a player who is very hungry to play and make a difference, is a very good character around the dressing room, and has quality.
“He will add quality for sure to the team, and even more competition at the back.”
Peter Grant thinks Welsh is good signing for Motherwell
Former Celtic defender Peter Grant spoke recently about Welsh’s switch to Fir Park, saying the Steelmen have signed well.
Grant said: “I think he’ll do very well. He’s quick, he’s strong, he can play in different positions. Very good in the air for not being the biggest.
“You know, he attacks the ball very well in opposition’s box, so he’s a threat at set pieces. All these wee things come in here. For all the nice football we talk about, you’ve still got to be a defender.
“I think he’s a very good signing for Motherwell.”
