Wilfried Nancy came to Celtic as a relatively unknown coach from the MLS.

Despite winning trophies at Montreal and Columbus Crew, there were still a number of Celtic supporters unconvinced that Nancy is the right man to take the club forward.

However, Celtic fans listened to glowing recommendations about Nancy’s system as being an attacking and forward thinking style of play and that is what the Hoops support demand.

Was Wilfried Nancy right to instantly implement his 3-4-3 at Celtic?

However, it’s not quite working for the Celtic manager and despite seeing flashes of what Nancy’s football is known for against Hearts and St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup final, fans are seriously questioning his future at the club after just ten days in the job.

Speaking about Nancy and what he is trying to implement at Celtic, Michael Stewart says he can see what the Hoops boss is trying to do and insists that the Hoops gaffer is being foolish.

Wilfried Nancy told his style of play at Celtic is ‘total madness’

Stewart was on Premier Sports Cup final commentary duty and admits that what he’s seeing right now at Celtic is crazy under Nancy.

Stewart told The Scottish Football Social Club, “I was just going to say, I mean, so you could see in the first half and now you’re starting to see the evolution of like we’re seeing more of what Wilfried Nancy wants to do.

“And I’ve heard obviously the guys from the MLS who spoke about as well and they would talk a lot about how the back three and the center halves on the sides have got the licence to bomb forward.

“I was saying in commentary, you could see it. It’s almost like every player on the team has a license to basically just run forward apart from Auston Trusty, and you’re thinking that is absolutely madness.

“It’s total madness.”

Some crazy Celtic stats under Wilfried Nancy despite losing record

Nancy has now lost his first three games as the Celtic manager but it appears that there are signs that what he wants to do is there, despite his losing record.

Despite that, Celtic have scored just one goal under Wilfried Nancy and conceded eight. That’s unacceptable for any manager at Parkhead.

So there is at least clear attacking intent in the team but how Nancy is applying it, and how he’s keeping the backdoor closed, is under scrutiny and Nancy must find answers at Dundee United tomorrow night.
