According to reports, Wilfried Nancy is close to being appointed as the new Celtic boss.

Nancy is close to becoming the new Celtic boss as the MLS manager looks to make his first breakthrough into European football.

The news was met with a mixed reaction from Celtic fans as many expressed disappointment whilst others said Nancy needs to be backed, just like former Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou.

However, it seems those reports may well be a bit premature after MLS journalist and writer for The Athletic, Tom Bogert, shares what he has been told about Nancy and Celtic.

Tom Bogert says Celtic haven’t contacted Columbus Crew about Wilfried Nancy

Whilst reports in Scotland seem to suggest that Nancy joining Celtic is very close, MLS journalist Bogert seems to be a bit more reserved.

Taking to X, Bogert said, “FWIW: Still no official contact between Celtic and Columbus Crew, I’m told.

“Wilfried Nancy is under contract and Crew would need to authorize anything + work out compensation if Nancy is to leave.

“Not saying it can’t or won’t happen… just that it hasn’t yet.”

So it appears that some cold water has been poured onto the rumour from a guy with good connections in America.

What Wilfried Nancy said about Celtic rumours

The season for Columbus Crew is over now and after his last game with the American club, Wilfried was asked about the Celtic rumours.

Wilfried said, “I’m not here to talk about myself.

“I’m here to talk about the team first of all and I have nothing to say regarding any kind of rumours.”

All very cagey from the Frenchman, who could be set to land one of the biggest jobs in European football.
