Peter Grant says Adam Idah has done the opposite of what everyone thinks at Celtic and it’s ‘incredible’

Adam Idah might end the season with non-stop starts after Celtic secured the title on Saturday.

With Jota out injured, it looks like Idah will now start up top until the end of the season, just like he did when he came off the bench in the first half as Celtic demolished Dundee United on Saturday. 

Despite Celtic scoring ten goals in their last two matches, Idah, to his frustration, only netted once, but he helped himself to a brace at Tannadice.

It was much deserved for the Republic of Ireland international because there has been a lot of noise around him this season.

It’s not Idah’s fault that Celtic paid £9 million for his services last summer, but he has had that weighing on his shoulders this term, and Peter Grant wanted to give him his flowers.

Peter Grant reacts to the suggestion that Adam Idah has had a ‘poor season’ at Celtic

It needs to be noted that Idah has had to watch Kyogo Furuhashi being favoured as the starting striker before he left, and then Daizen Maeda, who has gone goal crazy in 2025. 

But Grant wanted to shut down the suggestion that Idah has had a ‘poor’ season because he feels that has been the talk from some parts.

The Hoops legend made it clear that, for the minutes the Irishman has played, he has performed in an ‘incredible’ fashion, as he told Sportscene.

“They have been fighting themselves with the league, to be totally honest with you,” said Grant. “Brendan has had to put the marker down for the players.

“To get the amount of goals they have got is phenomenal. Different players scoring them. We didn’t think Maeda would score as many goals as he has done. His finishing has been phenomenal. If you look at Kuhn, at the start of the season, in excellent goalscoring form and assists.

“You have Idah, who everybody is saying ‘had a poor season. But he has 14 or 15 goals, which is incredible, for the amount of time he spends on the pitch.

“I am sure they will break that record (most goals in a season). Again, then he (Rodgers) will set them another standard.

“I think it is led by their captain. He sets the standards of the dressing room. The manager can tell you that the players are in the dressing room together. The captain sets the standards with everything he does. The professionalism, and that rubs off on the rest of the team.”

Look, when Maeda is performing at such a high, high level, it’s ridiculous and it can make Idah’s very good performances look average.

But, it needs to be noted that, throughout the Premiership campaign, the best run of starts he has been on is eight in a row; other than that, it’s starting one match, then dropping back to the bench. 

That’s probably why his overall goals tally deserves more respect and context.
