Peter Grant was delighted after hearing what Brendan Rodgers, said about transfers after watching Celtic beat St Mirren at the weekend.

Celtic coasted to a 3-0 win over the Paisley side after lining up for the first time without Matt O’Riley as he sealed his move to Brighton.

With Celtic needing to strengthen in a number of areas before Friday’s deadline work needs to be done, and quickly, to ensure that happens this week.

The transfer updates have been coming thick and fast this morning but it was what Brendan Rodgers said after the St Mirren win that particularly pleased former Celtic hero, Peter Grant.

Grant delighted with Rodgers’ deadline-day comment

67 Hail Hail discussed how the Celtic manager was asked about being allowed to spend £30m by a BBC reporter in a post-match interview.

Whilst Rodgers laughed off that question, the Celtic manager made this statement, “We have to see what we can do in the market. But what I do know is come next Friday, we’ll have improved the squad.

And it was those words that delighted Grant as he told The Scottish Football Podcast, “That’s what you like to hear as a Celtic supporter, that’s for sure.

“They look a very strong bench and that’s the way you judge the best teams with what they’ve got on the bench and how they can change it.

“Celtic look very much stronger in that position. As I say, last year, they carried a few injuries and then they looked weak at times.

“They couldn’t change things. They’ve managed to be able to do that. Now, keeping everybody fit is important, but I definitely feel you’ll get a few more bodies in here.

“The quality we don’t know, because we don’t know who these players are. You bring a Matt O’Riley in at £1.5m and you’re selling for £25m by all accounts.

“So it’s fantastic business. There’ll be people like that that maybe we’ll not know much of, and it will just be whether they can come here and perform and pull on that jersey, which can sometimes weigh you down even and it doesn’t matter how much they pay for you.”

So far today there have been reports that Celtic have made a £5m offer for Auston Trusty and that a formal bid has been made for Mateusz Bogusz.

With less than four days remaining in the transfer window, let’s hope Rodgers’ prediction comes true as Celtic still look lightweight in key positions in the first team.
