Player Brendan Rodgers sold for £3m after just one appearance continues to flourish after Celtic exit

Brendan Rodgers has done a great job at making a profit on players who were not part of his plans at Celtic.

The Celtic manager was keen to trim the bloated squad and create healthy competition when he arrived in the summer of 2023 and has just about managed to do that and make a tidy profit.

Alexandro Bernabei’s Celtic exit not only recouped the £3.75m fee paid in 2022, but the Parkhead club banked a nice little £1.25m profit after the £5m sale to Internacional.

And now, a player Rodgers sold for £3m after just three minutes in the Celtic first-team is about to continue his success away from the Bhoys as he earns a call up to his national senior squad.

Former Celtic man Bosun Lawal joins Adam Idah & Liam Scales in the Ireland camp

Bosun Lawal left Celtic for Stoke City last August and has made eight first-team appearances for the Championship club.

Granted, much of Lawal’s season has been hindered with a troublesome back injury but that hasn’t stopped the Republic of Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson from giving him a massive vote of confidence one year on from his Celtic exit.

Lawal has been called up for the Republic of Ireland as a ‘precaution’ as Hallgrimson admits that knocks to key players could affect the squad for their next game against Luxembourg.

What Bosun Lawal said about Celtic exit to Stoke City

Lawal, at just 22, has plenty of time to establish himself in Stoke’s first team but after he left Celtic, the young defender only had nice things to say about the club despite his lack of minutes on the park.

Lawal said, “Everyone wants somewhere where they can play regularly and just enjoy their football. That’s what I’m looking for and I feel like Stoke is the right club for that.

“I enjoyed my time at Celtic. It’s obviously a massive club. I didn’t play as much as I would have liked but I still learned a lot and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been part of that team that won the amount of trophies that they won with some amazing players.”

Now on the brink of his first cap, Lawal can look back on his time at Celtic as the springboard to his international success.
