After the flurry of reports doing the rounds yesterday that Dermot Desmond was having fresh talks in London with Brendan Rodgers, it looks like the deal to bring the Irishman to the club for a second spell is all but done.
The Sun reports that Brendan Rodgers is ‘finalising’ the deal that will allow him to return to Parkhead for the second time in his career. 67 Hail Hail discussed yesterday that there was a deal agreed ‘in principle’ and now it seems that a formal agreement may not be too far away.
We spoke yesterday about how Rodgers wants to take Celtic forward in Europe and that the board are willing to back him with significant transfer funds to make that happen.
The 50-year-old is also said to want to mend the bond between himself and the Celtic fans after the controversial way left the club to take over at Leicester City back in 2019.
Rodgers is also speaking to prospective candidates to join his backroom team with tactical coach, Jack Lyons and fitness expert Glen Driscoll said to be on the list of names Rodgers will bring to Paradise.
Celtic still have other managerial candidates in mind should Rodgers decide that a return to Glasgow is not for him, but that looks unlikely to happen considering how far advanced the talks have come.
All signs are pointing towards Celtic having a new manager sooner rather than later. With the club yet to announce when preseason commences, you would imagine that would be made after the new man is appointed.
With the Asian Tour coming up in July and preparations needing to be made for the new season, talks have accelerated this week to get this deal over the line and allow Rodgers to start working on his plan to make Celtic a force in Europe once more.
No doubt more information will be released as the day goes on but all indications are that it will be Brendan Rodgers that fills the void left by Ange Postecoglou.
