Celtic midfielder, Aaron Mooy is reportedly considering his future in football after Celtic appointed Brendan Rodgers as the new Celtic manager. That’s according to the Australian news outlet FTBL.
The report claims that Mooy is “thinking things over with a new coach (Brendan Rodgers) about to take charge”. At 33 years old, the classy midfielder still has a year left to run on his contract and would forego his final year’s salary if he did decide to hang up his boots.
Mooy missed Australia’s 2-0 friendly loss to Argentina last week in China, and there are ‘concerns’ within the Australian camp that he won’t look to participate in another international squad in the near future. The midfielder currently has 57 caps for his country.

When Mooy signed for Celtic last season, he did take a bit of time to bed into how Ange Postecoglou’s team played.
His first start for the club ended in the infamous 2-0 away defeat to St Mirren but after that, the veteran midfielder went from strength to strength as he built his fitness.
Inspirational performances in the 4-3 away win to Hearts at Tynecastle and the 2-2 draw with Rangers at Ibrox in the New Year Glasgow Derby are just a couple of examples of how Mooy showed his class, and managed to stake his place in the Celtic first team.
However, towards the end of the season injury ruled him out for the final four SPFL fixtures including the 5-0 Trophy Day win over Aberdeen. He also missed out on the historic Scottish Cup Final win.

The report from FTBL also claims a Celtic ‘insider’ has said of the rumour, “I’ve heard nothing about Aaron (not returning to the club after the summer break).”
If the rumour is correct, it does seem as though Mooy feels as though he may not have the appetite to impress a new coach and now may well be the right time to step aside and let the new manager focus on the new season ahead with his own players.
Whatever happens, if Mooy does decide to go, he will be remembered fondly by the Celtic supporters and thanked for his contribution to last season’s historic treble.
