Robbie Keane has been speaking about his future once again after Martin O’Neill endorsed him for the Celtic job.

Keane said he would like to manage at a ‘higher level’ in the future and Ireland’s all-time leading scorer has been linked with the Hoops.

O’Neill said that Celtic should be looking at him and Keane’s connections to Dermot Desmond make him a genuine contender. But, when asked about his future once again, the Ferencvaros boss focused on the short-term.

A 2-1 victory for Ferencvaros put them back at the top of the Hungarian top flight with four games left to play this season.

As it is at Celtic, winning the league is a non-negotiable for Fradi and ahead of their top of the table clash with Gyor on Sunday, Keane says all job speculation is off the table right now.

He said: “The boys showed real character to turn the tables with two quick goals. I think at this level of the league there are ups and downs, but the most important thing is to win today.

“Everything in football depends on mentality. I expect a very tough match against Gyor, away from home, as our opponent has had a good season so far.

“It’s almost over [the season], fortunately, I hope we can move on from there.”

Will Martin O’Neill’s Robbie Keane endorsement persuade Celtic?

The fact that a Celtic legend like O’Neill has publicly backed Keane to be in contention for the job could have a huge influence on him getting the job.

Celtic need to find a new manager by the World Cup realistically, and things could move quickly.

If Keane wasn’t a favourite, would O’Neill have publicly said that he needs to be considered?

Fans are sceptical about appointing Keane, but maybe the board have already made their decision?
