The wait for Celtic to appoint Brendan Rodgers’ long-term successor goes on.
Celtic have Martin O’Neill a lot to thank for, because without him, you presume there would be a lot more negative noise around the time it’s taking to appoint a new coach.
Wilfried Nancy is expected to replace Rodgers, after he left on October 27, but the longer this is delayed, it just allows more theories to be floated around.
Either way, whilst other clubs would be panicking right now, the feeling inside Celtic Park is a lot calmer, as Roger Hannah shared.

Feeling at Celtic as Wilfried Nancy is yet to be confirmed
Celtic confirmed on Monday that O’Neill will be in charge for the St Mirren match on Saturday evening when players return from international duty.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Hannah explained that Celtic are ‘quite content’ with their current situation involving O’Neill and Shaun Maloney.
The Scottish journalist also explained that the powers that be won’t be fazed by having to bring in Nancy until after Celtic’s League Cup final against St Mirren next month.
“It’s really strange because it’s unprecedented times at Celtic,” said Hannah.
“Unprecedented times, in the hunt for a manager because normally teams are scrambling around to get a new gaffer in. Days after the last one has gone.
“I think actually Celtic are quite content in the current term to have Martin and Shaun in charge. I don’t think it would faze to have them in charge, even up to the cup final, if they knew they were getting Nancy in afterwards.”
Celtic’s fixtures up until League Cup final vs St Mirren
This is where things start to get interesting because Celtic’s injury-hit squad is now going to be seriously tested.
Up until Christmas, the Hoops will have zero midweek breaks, with the Europa League and Premiership matches, as well as the League Cup final, taking a stranglehold of the fixture list.
But if it is to be O’Neill and Maloney up until the League Cup final, then this is what the fixture list looks like:
- Vs St Mirren (A), Premiership, Saturday, November 22
- Vs Feyenoord (A), Europa League, Thursday, November 27
- Vs Hibernian (A), Premiership, Sunday, November 30
- Vs Dundee (H), Premiership, Wednesday, December 3
- Vs Hearts (H), Premiership, Sunday, December 7
- Vs AS Roma (H), Europa League, Thursday, December 11
- Vs St Mirren (N), League Cup Final, Sunday, December 14
