Scott Brown quizzed on Motherwell manager job, Celtic hero gives honest answer

Scott Brown has proven himself to be a savvy manager in his own right already.

The Celtic icon retired back in 2022 following a brief stint at Aberdeen as a coach after leaving Parkhead.

He then became Fleetwood Town gaffer where he guided the Cod Army to their best-ever FA Cup run and consolidated their status in English League One.

Brown would eventually be sacked by the club after a difficult run but he has not struggled for job offers with Forest Green Rovers being linked before St Johnstone also considered the 39-year-old.

That move didn’t materialise after Brendan Rodgers offered Broony advice on his management career trajectory and he would eventually reject the offer from the McDiarmid Park club.

Brown would move on to become Ayr United’s boss in the Scottish Championship and his Honest Men currently sit top of the table by a single point albeit Falkirk in second spot have a game in hand.

Scott Brown has been grilled over Motherwell manager job

Broony‘s successes at Somerset Park have now alerted the attention of Premiership side Motherwell who are seeking to replace Stuart Kettlewell who shockingly resigned recently citing abuse from fans as his main concern.

And the Steelmen are believed to be considering Brown as a candidate for their vacancy.

That seems to be as far as it will go for the retired midfielder, though, after he broke his silence on the speculation linking him to Fir Park.

As while he acknowledged the club for its size and history in the Scottish game, he also insisted he still has a job to do at Ayr United and that is where his full focus is as he ruled himself out of the running.

“My main concentration is on Ayr,” Brown told STV.

“I’m really enjoying it here at this moment and I’m really looking forward to the game on Friday.

“Motherwell‘s a great club and I’m sure someone will go and get that job. It’s not going to be me.

“We’re in a good place at this moment in time and it’s a huge game coming up on Friday.

“It’s going to be brilliant for our fans to see a top quality club like Hibs (in the Scottish Cup) and it’s great for us as well.”
