Scott Brown and Barry Robson went head-to-head against each other.

While Celtic’s action is paused for the international break, the Scottish Championship and leagues below have still been in action.

At the weekend, two former Hoops midfielders in Brown and Robson faced off as Ayr United took on Raith Rovers.

Ayr United beat Raith Rovers 2-0

A win for Ayr meant that they were able to leapfrog Raith to move into fourth place and now have a game in hand on Arbroath, who are a point clear in third.

Celtic loanee Jude Bonnar came off the bench for Ayr while fellow loanee Kyle Ure is away with Scotland U21s.

Bonnar and Ure have been praised by Brown for their impact and is hoping they can be the catalyst to take his side back to the Scottish Premiership for the first time since the 1977/78 season.

Raith boss Robson admitted that they were ‘second best’ on the day, saying: “We had too many who just weren’t at their best today.

“It wasn’t like we were battering their goal or passing it crisply or pressing well. We were just a bit in between everything.”

There is still a long way to go until the end of the season, but right now, life is good for Brown.

The win at Stark’s Park means Ayr are now seven games unbeaten and can consider themselves truly in the promotion hunt.

Brown is yet to go up against Celtic as a manager, but if things continue to go well, there is every chance that Celtic vs Ayr could be a league fixture.
