Stiliyan Petrov names Celtic star he expects to ‘get better and better’

Celtic have had a strong season in all competitions this term and there’s still more to come.

The Hoops enjoyed a good Champions League campaign and only a heartbreaking late goal away at Bayern Munich prevented a crack at the knockout stages beyond the playoff.

They also hold a strong 13-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership which is an unsurmountable lead given how little is left of the season for Rangers to try and claw them back. Celtic can win the title as early as next month.

For Stiliyan Petrov he has watched Celtic flourish under Brendan Rodgers and has been impressed with what he has seen on all fronts.

The January transfer window was used as a stick to beat Celtic’s manager and his recruitment staff with given that they didn’t add a new striker as they desired. But one star they did sign was Jota who hit the ground running upon his return.

Petrov says Jota can only get ‘better and better’ at Celtic

Petrov is a big fan of the Portuguese winger and he reckons the playmaker can only improve beyond how he has fared, given he has not even been 100 percent match fit.

“It’s been a very positive campaign for Celtic,” he told the Sunday Post. “Domestically, they are close to winning it all and they also made strides in the Champions League. Some of the performances in Europe were outstanding and everyone felt very proud of Celtic.

“Brendan wants his team to play entertaining football and also winning football. It’s not always easy to deliver both but Celtic have done so in the past nine months.

“They have good options in the squad and bringing back Jota in January was a real positive.

“Jota will get better and better and I think he will make a massive contribution next season. The Celtic supporters love him and there is a really strong relationship there. It’s a great feeling being able to give the Celtic supporters success. They back the team and it’s great to see them so happy.

“The next few weeks may well be very special for everyone at Celtic and you need to really enjoy success when it comes along. These are special moments to be cherished.”

Jota cried tears of joy after making his Celtic re-debut and scoring in that fixture away at Motherwell.

It came as catharsis for the wideman after struggling with Al-Ittihad following his mega-money move and then his Rennes switch in Ligue 1 also not going to plan.

The creative attacker was a big hit at Celtic Park before he left in the well deserved £25million switch to Saudi.

And he has done well to continue where he left off in his second stint even if there’s still time and room to improve.
