STV journalist shares what he knows about the infamous Wilfried Nancy Celtic sack rumour

Wilfried Nancy has had his fair share of negative headlines since his arrival at Celtic over the last four weeks.

The Celtic manager has been under a lot of pressure after Nancy lost his first four games but after the Hoops beat Aberdeen, the Frenchman has alleviated some of that.

However, it was after Celtic lost at Dundee United that the pressure really ramped up, especially after Peter Martin said he believed that Celtic were in ‘discussions’ to end the Frenchman’s tenure early.

Celtic strongly denied those rumours and here, STV journalist Ronnie Charters has shared what he knows about the rumour and categorically states the club’s position on Nancy’s future at the Bhoys.

Wilfried Nancy Celtic sack rumour is ‘completely false’

Nancy is clearly going to be the Celtic manager for the foreseeable future and it appears that the Aberdeen win has killed most of the hysteria surrounding his immediate future.

But it appears that hysteria was short-lived anyway as Charters says the original rumour about Nancy’s future at Celtic was untrue.

Charters told the STV Radio Football Show, “Completely false. Completely false.”

“I don’t want to go that far [that the rumour was made up]. But Celtic categorically denied any idea that there was the story that talks are ongoing for a compensation deal.

“No. They’re backing him the whole way. They’re backing him. They said listen he needs his own time. He needs his own players. He’ll get the backing in January.

“They’re already looking at January. They’re even looking to the summer as well so that you know they realise their mistakes.”

Charters was fairly convinced about Celtic’s position regarding Nancy and hopefully the sack sideshow dissipates to allow the manager to get on with his job without these distractions.

Because if Nancy is to have any hope of being successful at Celtic, the Frenchman needs to be left alone from these unnecessary headlines and be allowed to get on with it.

Celtic’s latest transfer update on Jocelin Ta Bi

Celtic are reportedly interested in winger Jocelin Ta Bi. The 20-year-old winger from Ivory Coast is currently on loan at Hapoel Petah Tikva, as his agent, Stav Hachmon, revealed how much it would cost to get his client.

Hachmon said, “The offer is €2.8million, with Tubruk receiving 20 percent of the sale after reimbursement of expenses.

“While Hapoel Petah Tikva is asking for between €600k and €1million as compensation for the player’s departure in the January window.

“Celtic are talking but willing to pay less but leave Netanya a percentage of a future sale.

“Talks are continuing even though the player is injured and both Gent and Celtic want to see that this is not an injury that will make it difficult for him to return soon.

“In any case, Petah Tikva is aware of the offer that was submitted, as the player himself feels ready to move to a higher league.”

Let’s hope that the backing in the transfer market that Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson has promised comes to fruition because if this title is to be won, fresh faces need to be brought into the club as soon as possible.
