Talksport pundit destroys Brendan Rodgers narrative; Celtic support have good days ahead

The appointment of Brendan Rodgers seems to have ruffled the feathers of some pundits in the game. The former Leicester manager was lambasted by Talksport pundit, Simon Jordan who branded Rodgers a failure at the Midlands club after their recent relegation from the English Premier League. Rodgers led The Foxes to two fifth-placed finishes, won the FA Cup and the Community Shield in his three seasons at the club. And although Leicester eventually did get relegated this season, Jordan’s Talksport colleague, Andy Townsend defended Rodgers and said that he was surprised by the outspoken pundit’s comments.

Townsend said [Talksport], “Brendan’s win percentage at most of the clubs he’s been to has been more than acceptable. He won 96 matches out of 204 for Leicester.

“He’s won in the FA Cup and won the Community Shield as well. And I don’t think you can class that as a failure. It was the right time for him to go because he looked like he’d had enough.

“It wasn’t like you’ve sacked him out of nowhere. It looked like it probably should have been done a few months before it was.”

Townsend then went on to say, “Brendan originally went to Celtic to be successful and to give them a period that they enjoyed. He could also then put in his back pocket and then go and find himself another big Premier League job.

“Now, he got to Leicester, he’s won things there, and it’s all fizzled out.

“I think he’s now at that point where he’s going to go back to Celtic and he’s going to look to do the same again because I think he’s an ambitious guy.”

If Rodgers is looking to build his reputation back up to go and find another Premier League job, that can only be good news for the Celtic fans.

Because to do that, he will need to be successful quickly and not just on the domestic front. Rodgers has a plan to help build our stature as a top European club and it looks like the Celtic hierarchy are completely on board with that.

And I don’t know about you, if he does come back and repeat the success he had the first time around and couple that with improvements in Europe, I cannot wait for the new season to start back up again.
