Celtic are in the market for another striker.
Callum Osmand was signed from Fulham as he joins Adam Idah and Johnny Kenny as the club’s three main central forwards.
Shin Yamada appears to be next from Kawasaki Frontale, with a medical for the Japanese international expected within the next week.
But Odsonne Edouard is also being linked with a sensational return to Celtic, four years after leaving the Parkhead giants for Crystal Palace in a £14m deal.
Dalziel reacts to Celtic fan against Edouard return
Brendan Rodgers is said to be considering a swoop for Edouard, as it appears the Frenchman’s stint at Palace is coming to an end.
Celtic fans, of course, have been reacting to the speculation. And one fan who called into Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Tuesday night was NOT having it.
The caller blasted Edouard’s attitude in his final season at Celtic, the infamous COVID-19 campaign that saw Rangers win the Scottish Premiership at a canter.
And for that reason, the caller would not welcome back the 27-year-old to Glasgow. Pundit Gordon Dalziel reacted, saying: “I take on board what Mark’s (caller) saying, and I don’t think he’ll be alone.
“I think one or two (fans) would have looked at that season, the way he went about his business. He has got that style about him.
“Look, he hasn’t had the last greatest couple of seasons down in England. But when he was in Scotland…I don’t think you lose your ability at 27.
“I thought he had very good ability and was a very good player, i.e. why a Premier League club came in and took him. He would come back to a club that he knows and the demands.
“He must have matured because we all do it. And he’s coming back to a guy (Brendan Rodgers) who would do his homework on him, make sure that his attitude was right.
“If you get him on the right terms, I really do think he would do a job for Celtic.”
Edouard’s stats for the 2020/21 season
The caller’s accusation that Edouard was effectively worse than a man down for Celtic that season is a ridiculous thing to say.
The Hoops were atrocious as a team and imploded midway through the season around the chaos and aftermath of the infamous Dubai trip.
But Edouard did his job by scoring 22 goals in 40 games across all competitions. He also assisted on six occasions.
Edouard may have been angling to leave the club, but you can’t ignore the individual contributions he provided over that season.
