Celtic’s pursuit of Shin Yamada appears to be drawing to a close.

The Japanese striker is widely expected to complete a £1.2m move to Celtic soon but, as yet, the deal has not moved forward.

Yamada was watched by Celtic in June and it looks like Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the J League striker to Parkhead.

And here, Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph reveals when the 25-year-old will complete his medical ahead of his big Celtic move.

Shin Yamada will join Celtic ‘within a week’

Kawasaki Frontale fans have told Celtic that if they get Yamada, they will be robbing their club of a talented striker.

And it appears that this will be happening sooner rather than later.

Joseph told Off The Underside, “We’ve been reporting they’re very close to sealing a £1.5m deal for Kawasaki Frontale striker Shin Yamada.

“He’s on international duty with Japan until tomorrow. He’s at a tournament in South Korea that was for Japanese-based players only.

“And after that I think within a week he should be flying over to the UK and completing a medical, and all being well finalising that move.”

Where Celtic still need to strengthen despite being close to adding seventh summer signing

When Shin Yamada finally arrives in Glasgow, he will become Celtic’s seventh summer signing. Despite that, Brendan Rodgers still has a bit of work ahead of him.

The Parkhead club still need at least another two wingers after the departure of Nicolas Kuhn and the injury to Jota.

The left-back position is still in question despite adding Hayato Inamura and some Celtic fans still want to see a midfield enforcer added to the squad as well as another centre-back to compete with or partner Cameron Carter-Vickers.

With just under 60 days of the transfer window left, Rodgers has time to reinforce the squad but things will need to start moving ahead of the season kick-off in August.
