The Celtic board’s baffling ‘evidence’ of the club’s success in Europe and transfer strategy verdict

It’s fair to say the Celtic Fans Collective meeting with the board appears to have done more damage to the Parkhead board than good.

There was hope amongst much of the Celtic support that there would be answers from those in charge of the club over the direction it is going under the current stewardship.

However, after Michael Nicholson’s verdict on someone at Celtic briefing against Brendan Rodgers, that hope has quickly vanished.

And the hope will turn to anger when fans hear how the Celtic board really view the club’s ‘success’ in Europe and how they view their transfer strategy.

Celtic ‘defend’ shambolic transfer window and disastrous European campaign

Celtic fans are not daft. They know that this season’s European campaign and the summer transfer window was a complete shambles.

So when they read what the Parkhead board thinks of both, Celtic fans will be incandescent with rage.

The statement from the Celtic Fan Collective read, “Overall, the Club believes the football strategy is working and pointed to participation in European competition as evidence of its success.

“Club defended its transfer strategy citing different factors for transfer activity being difficult (for example tax laws in different European countries) while pointing to examples which they believe is evidence of the strategy working.

“The Club said that transfer business involves a multi-disciplinary model and no part of that model has ultimate authority, however did cede that there are thresholds where the Board of Directors must authorise increased transfer payments.

“When pressed on this point, the Club claimed emails would be sent to Board members for authorisation where necessary.”

What next for Celtic fans and the board?

Well, the initial reaction to the meeting between Celtic and the Fans Collective appears to have only angered the Parkhead support.

With no official word yet, one can only assume that fan action will resume when the domestic season restarts later this month.

With the board digging their heels in and Celtic fans together en masse, this looks like it’s going to be a long and uncomfortable season for the Parkhead suits.
