The former Dundee captain scored for Celtic against his old club in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Luke McCowan made his big move to Celtic Park in the summer and it’s fair to say that for £1m, the midfielder has been a superb piece of business.

Making his 20th appearance in Celtic’s draw with Dundee, McCowan scored the opening goal in the 5th minute and seemed to have set the Parkhead club on their way to their 20th win in the Scottish Premiership.

But that wasn’t how the match panned out as Celtic wasted many first-half chances to win the game and defensive errors cost the Bhoys dearly in the draw with Dundee.

But it was what McCowan did after his goal that caught the eye as the Celtic midfielder explained his goal celebration at Dens Park.

McCowan scored his fourth goal of his Celtic career against Dundee last night with a superb directed header that left goalkeeper, Trevor Carson, with no chance of saving.

But it was what he did after he scored that caught the eye last night:

It’s common practice that former players don’t tend to celebrate scoring against their old club and whilst that did play a part in my McCowan didn’t celebrate his first goal against Dundee, the Celtic midfielder delivered another reason why he was ‘glad’ he didn’t wheel away in joy.

“I was here three or four years,” McCowan continued, “And they treated me really well and I enjoyed my time here. It was the first place me and my fiance moved away from home so it’s always going to play a wee special bit in my heart.

“So I couldn’t run away and celebrate and I’m glad I never now after the result.”

Clearly drawing the game hurt McCowan and whilst he has a lot of respect for Dundee, there is no doubt the 27-year-old midfielder really wanted to win at Dens Park.

However, a point is better than nothing as Celtic stretch their lead from Rangers to 16 points at the top of the Scottish Premiership table as the Ibrox club entertain Aberdeen tonight.

With 17 games left to go, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers takes another step closer to defending his title and with Scottish Cup and Champions League duty up next, the Hoops boss has a lot to think about after watching his side’s performance against Dundee.
